Meet Rabbi Moshe Pinchas Weisblum

Shalom!  Thank you for your interest in Congregation Kneseth Israel.  Please allow me to introduce myself.

I was born on December 6, 1962 in Sedeh Ya’akov, Israel, to the renowned scholar, Rabbi Chaim Weisblum, son of Rabbi Ya’akov Weisblum (Ziditshov Rebbe) and Rebbetzin Gittle, daughter of the famous Kabbalistic master and author, Rabbi Yehuda Brandwein. Rabbi Chaim Weisblum was the Rosh Yeshiva and the Rabbi of Sedeh Ya’akov.  I am a 14th generation rabbi.

In December 1966, my father, Rabbi Chaim Weisblum, was appointed to a rabbinical position in Neve-Shanan, Haifa, Israel and he has been their Rabbi to this day.

I was a student at Yeshiva Torat Emet, Haifa, Israel from 1968 to 1976, Yeshiva Itri from 1976 to 1978, and Yeshiva Ohr Etzion from 1978 to 1980.

On February 1, 1981, I volunteered for the elite paratrooper unit, in the Israeli Defense Forces. I completed extensive courses and I received a medal and commendation, at the end of the Israeli-Lebanese War. I finished my Army career as a commissioned officer, with the rank of Major.

From 1985 to 1995, I was involved in several activities, namely:

  • I continued my rabbinical studies at Yeshiva Kollel in Jerusalem, Israel.
  • For three years, 1986-89, I studied Computer Sciences at the Ofrim Institute.
  • I was import-export Manager and Executive Director of Chalmah International Foods Inc., in Israel.
  • In 1986, I wrote my first book, entitled Unetana Tokeff.
  • In 1987, I composed music: Haya Impifot, Heaven Calling Earth, With You, and wrote the award-winning book, Beiury Haklomar Berashi (2 vol., 6th printing).
  • In 1988, I wrote a Screenplay, House of Bread, which has been sold to Century Production, Inc., U.S.A.
  • In 1995, I wrote a book called, Test Your Pesach Knowledge.

Other milestones and accomplishments include:

  • In 1986, I received Smicha from Rabbi Haitnar, Chief Rabbi of Shomron, Israel.
  • In 1987 and 1989, I received the Keren Zicaron Award for writing, New York.
  • In 1988, I received Cantor and Ba’al Korah Certificate, Jerusalem, Israel.
  • In 1994, I received the Golden Prize in Writing, from the City of Haifa, Israel.
  • In 1995, I received a certificate in Holistic alternative medicine.
  • In 1996, I was hired as the Rabbi of Congregation B’nai Ahavat Shalom, in Union, NJ, where I served until March 2002. In this position, I had responsibility over the daily religious affairs of the synagogue; spiritual consultant of the religious school, Men’s club and Sisterhood; teacher and lecturer to the synagogue’s 240 members.
  • In 1998, I received S'micha from Rabbi Rivkin, Chief Rabbi of St. Louis, MO.
  • In 2000, I wrote a book called, Table Talk: Biblical Questions and Answers, Jason Aronson Publisher, NJ.
  • In 2005, my book "Ruth Talk" was published. Jonathan David Publishers, Middle Village, NY. 
  • In 2007, my book "The Hermeneutics of Medieval Jewish Thought: Understanding the Linguistic Codes of Rashi and Nachmanides" was published.  

I earned a Masters Degree in Public Administration from Fairleigh Dickinson University, New Jersey, and earned a PhD in philosophy from Baltimore Hebrew University.   I also have computer skills, in networking, earning an A+ certification.  Also in 2005, I was awarded the Sidney Breitbart Prize in Jewish philosophy from Baltimore Hebrew University. 

I have been a consultant to the media, since 1991. I was on a TV interview, channel 12-talk show, cable TV channel 54 –commentator on social and political issues. I was interviewed on the radio many times, regarding political and religious analysis and I consult on Middle Eastern affairs to Washington D.C.

In 1998 to 1999, I was a teacher to ninth and tenth graders in Kushner Yeshiva High School, in Livingston, NJ. I taught Maimonides, Bible, and Hebrew Language.

In 1999-2000, I was a professor at the Academy for Jewish Religion in Manhattan, NY. I taught Jewish Law in a Rabbis’ ordination program.

I am a member of the New York Board of Rabbis,New Jersey Board of Rabbis, UTJ, and Morasha.

I am proficient in Hebrew, English, Arabic and Yiddish.

In 1985, I married Miriam Haitan. We have five children. My eldest son, Elimelech,21 (named after my great grandfather, Rabbi Elimelech Weisblum of Lijuensk, Poland), was student at the renowned institution, Netovot, in Jerusalem and now attends Baltimore Hebrew University. My eldest daughter, Bracha,20, was a student at the Jewish Educational Center of Elizabeth, N.J. and  at Ulpahn Bethel High School in Jerusalem, and is now a senior at Bais Yaakov in Baltimore. I also have a daughter Ayala, 13, that also attends Bais Yaakov, a son, Yitzchak Meir, 12 who attends the Talmudical Academy in Baltimore, and a son Nathan, 9, who was born in the U.S. and also attends the Talmudical Academy.

The Baltimore Jewish Times featured an article on Rabbi Weisblum's book "Table Talk  Biblical Questions and Answers" (book shown below).   His book is available for purchase from most Web sites that sell books.  His latest book that was released in April 2005 is called "Ruth Talk", which is loaded with questions and answers on the Book of Ruth.  You can read a reviews of "Ruth Talk" (already in it's second printing) at the Kosher Delight Web site ,the Jewish Voice and Opinion Magazine, AOL Journals, and the Baltimore Jewish Times.
